Curt SwisherMy surname is Swisher. My hobby is family history.

One of my fondest memories growing up was our semi-annual trip to the “Kansas Swisher Reunion” in mid August, where I could enjoy a huge potluck meal at the local park, go swimming in the pool (last dip for the season), and spend time playing with my cousins.  For most of my cousins that was the only time I got to see them until the next reunion.

I started researching my family heritage in 1984. Like many others, I got the bug after watching the miniseries “ROOTS” based on the book by Alex Haley. I did however have a head start because my mother, Loraine Maxine Donal Swisher, had been doing family research since 1946 when she married my father.

Whenever I visited my folks at their home I would always ask my mother to get out some of her genealogy collection so I could see if I could find some little nugget. Her response invariably was “you’ve already seen it all”, which I knew was not the case. So she would bring out another box of material and I would sort through it. It never failed that I would find something that I had not seen before. I loved those “treasure hunts”.

My mother passed away in February 2004 and I inherited all of her genealogy collection. Her collection of materials was “massive” and I’m still finding nuggets every time I look in another box.

Now that I am retired, I have the time to devote to my family history hobby. With this website I hope to be able to share my love of family history and connect with others who share the same goal of getting to know their own history. I look forward to using this website to do just that.
