I created this website because I wanted to take my family research to a new level. I have been doing genealogical research since 1984, when everything was done by going to libraries, looking at micro-film, and traveling great distances to do personal interviews. I also inherited all of my mother’s genealogical research collection, which she started collecting in 1946.
Times have changed and now with the internet and social media, I have realized that there is more for me to discover about my roots. Through this website I hope to connect with others doing research on the same family surnames. Although my family tree on Ancestry.com (Swisher/Donal/McDonald & Wigton/Brooner/Kinion Families) lists only six surnames, I am interested in learning about all of my families historical surnames. This website is one way I hope to make connection with others who are also interested in the same surnames.
However, there is more to my family history than just a list of parents, grandparents, siblings, and children, with their significant dates about their lives. These ancestors married, worked, were known in their communities, and served in the military. Many factors affected their lives and the decisions they made. I want to know what those factors were. I want to know why they did what they did. I want to learn the history of the communities they lived in. I believe that those who view this website may be able to shed light on those reasons and factors
Finally, every one of us has stories told to us by our ancestors. Many of these stories are recorded on paper, but many are still only preserved in the mind of others. I hope that through this website I will be able to connect with others who are willing to share their stories about our common ancestors with me.
